Scoop Soldiers Favorite Dog-Friendly Summertime Activities

Ah, sweet summertime! We know we’re not the only ones who love the sunshine and scenery this time of year – our furry friends do, too. Luckily, there are endless summer activities that are dog-friendly, so you don’t have to leave your pooch behind. No need to wrestle with the guilt, take Fido with you!

We put together a list of our favorite dog-friendly things to do this summer.

Swimming

Playing in the water has many benefits. This provides exercise, mental stimulation and an energy release for dogs. For many dogs, it can take time to acclimate to the water. Once they do, you may have trouble getting them out! Whether you’re a pool, lake or beach-goer, your pup will thank you for an outing that involves water!

Morning Walks and Hikes

As long as temperatures aren’t dangerous for your pup, walking or hiking in the summer is a great activity for dogs. The best time to go out for a walk is morning, to avoid the temperature peak. We may not all be morning people, but it’s worth it when it comes to our furry friend’s health and well-being.

Make Frozen Treats

Though it’s not an outdoor activity, making frozen treats can be a fun, summer activity that you’re dog will appreciate. Frozen treats are quite a luxury for pups during the summertime, allowing them to relax, cool down and enjoy. Some of our favorite ingredients to include in frozen treats include watermelon, coconut, banana, peanut butter, and carrots. See here for a great example of how-to make these treats!

Backyard Obstacle Courses

What could be more fun than a summer obstacle course? It’s time to gather those old hula-hoops, balls, and ropes in the garage, and put them to good use! Setting up a simple obstacle course in the backyard is a perfect way to get your dog moving, while also teaching them tricks and commands.

Road Trips

Even though road trips are a year-round activity, there’s just something about hitting the road during the summer that makes things more exciting. So, whether it’s a quick trip to Starbucks for a pup-a-chino, or a full-fledged weekend getaway, roll the windows down and let your pup enjoy the fresh air and freedom. Most dogs love car rides and view it as a special treat.
