We get it; it’s finally summertime and you want to get out there and enjoy the sunshine and scenery. But we know it can be difficult for you to leave your pup at home, which is why we got the scoop (pun absolutely intended) on a few of the best dog-friendly patios in Scoop Soldiers’ home cities.
Mutts Canine Cantina is one of our favorite hangout spots in Uptown Dallas. This cantina has a beer garden that offers concession-style treats for you and your furry friends, plus a wide selection of local craft beers, inexpensive wines, and other full-bar beverages.Mutt’s includes two off-leash parks, separate for small and large dogs. You can even purchase a Mutt’s membership that offers the luxury of having an attendant take care after your dog, a low fee for unlimited monthly or yearly visits, and the opportunity to be a part of a dog-loving community. With such a relaxing and friendly environment, a Mutt’s visit is sure to be worth it. Dogs must be clean, healthy, spayed/neutered, and at least four months old to enter the park.
Another top pick is the Katy Trail Ice House on Routh Street in Dallas. This pet-friendly restaurant features a communal beer garden that includes a 50-foot long bar to complement the fifty beers on tap. The food menu offers plenty of variety but the restaurant’s go-to staple is its Texas-style BBQ. Make sure to come early for this perk because they run out on purpose! Katy Trail Ice House promises fresh, long smoked, juicy BBQ only. The Ice House is located on Katy Trail, a privately-maintained public park that is family, and of course, dog, appropriate. Awarded best patio in Dallas, you don’t want to miss out on this lively atmosphere!
Located near the Fort Worth Arts District, Ye Olde Bull and Bush Pub is a hole-in-the-wall bar where dogs are allowed inside and out. Just don’t come hungry; there’s no food at this joint. Just a good beer selection, good service, and a very laid-back vibe.
And a few others that even offer water and treats for pups: RJ Gators in Fort Worth; Landmark Bar + Kitchen in Fort Worth; Shaw’s Patio Bar and Grill in Fort Worth; and the Woodshed Smokehouse in Fort Worth – there’s even a special menu for pups!
For our Central Texas dog-owners, take a visit to Yard Bar in Austin with your favorite companion. Their off-leash dog park, which is twenty-one and up only, has a full bar, agility equipment, and “bark rangers” to ensure the safety of your dog. While you enjoy your drink, your pup can enjoy either the Bones & Co Sliders (beef and mixed vegetable patties), or house-made ice cream with new flavors weekly. They are also known for having events such as “Hair of the Dog” and “Puppy Bowl Live” so be sure to check their calendar before your next visit. The dining patio welcomes all ages.
Located a little further south, you’ll find The Cove in downtown San Antonio. Beer garden, playground, and a dog run, there’s something for everyone! Their specialty is their SOL (sustainable, organic, local) food, some of which is even grown in their own garden. Their meat is hormone and antibiotic free and their menu caters to vegan and gluten free needs. Their spacious patio is perfect for wine and beer tastings, live music, kids, and of course your four-legged friend.
Axelrad in Houston, the city’s only hammock grove, is a place for all. Originally a grocery store, Axelrad has turned into a hip and beautifully renovated building with large indoor and outdoor spaces. The beer and music garden hosts concerts, film screenings, video art pieces, festivals, and other exciting events. They sell local craft beers starting at $3, wine, and cocktails, but for food you get to order from their neighbors at Luigi’s Pizzeria! Dogs are welcome both inside and outside the bar.
Fat Dog Kitchen and Bar is one of the best dog-friendly patios in Oklahoma City. Its retro patio has a chill atmosphere that makes you just want to kick back and enjoy a cocktail from their drink list with dog-inspired names. Fat Dog welcomes your pooch to its patio with special bowls for eating and drinking but it must remain on its leash. During the weekend, you can expect to see music and other live acts on the patio.
To our friends in the Grand Canyon State, we recommend Outrageous Homebrewer’s Social Outpost, or O.H.S.O, in Phoenix. This Arcadia hot spot has a massive patio with fans and misters that is both dog and bike themed, as many bike riders turn into bar goers after a ride on the scenic trail nearby. Stop by and you may run into a dog birthday party, fundraisers for animal shelters, or even meet some dogs that are ready for adoption. O.H.S.O. offers weekend brunch, a lunch/dinner menu and a separate gluten-free/vegan menu. We didn’t forget your pup’s appetite! O.H.S.O has house-made dog treats and plenty of doggie water bowls.
