How to Keep Your Pup Entertained While Working From Home

Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen our nation make a lot of tough decisions in an effort to flatten the curve and slow the spread of COVID-19. As a result, many American workers are social distancing and working from home, when possible. That means dog owners have a new coworker while working from their homes, and all that coworker wants to do is play and spend time with you! Here are some tips to help keep your pup entertained while you’re working from home.

  • Establish an “anti-routine”

We know this may seem to contradict what most dog blogs preach, but working from home means that some days can be extremely busy, and other days may present more opportunities for free time to play with your pooch. If you establish a firm routine of potty times and play times, you might be unable to uphold a specific routine each day. This can be very confusing for some dogs. If you accustom your dog to going to the bathroom and walks at miscellaneous times, your dog will be ready for whatever your work-from-home days throw your way.

  • Exercise for Fido

As we’ve mentioned time and time again, a tired dog is a happy and well-behaved dog! Remember to still give your pup (and yourself) some fresh air and much needed exercise when possible, as working from home can present new stressors for both you and your pup compared to traditional workdays.

  • Set timers

Stay on track with your schedule by setting timers throughout the day. Whenever the timer goes off, spend about 10 minutes with your dog, either playing or relaxing. This will help break up the work day and establish times for giving Fido the attention he needs and deserves.

  • Invest in new toys

Dogs get bored just like we do, and toys are a great way to entertain your pooch while you are working! Consider online ordering a toy that will peak your dog’s interest, like a toy that dispenses treats sporadically. This will keep your dog busy as he works to find a way to get treats out of the toy.

  • Give your pup lots of extra love

This is a hard time for us all. Spending some extra quality time with your dog will not only benefit him, but it will also alleviate any stress you may be experiencing. Spending time with an animal is proven to benefit mental health for humans.
